The Hyundai Elantra is a compact car manufactured by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai since 1990. The first generation Elantra was introduced in 1991 as a four-door sedan and five-door liftback, replacing the Lantra. The second generation launched in 1998 and was marketed as both a sedan and five-door hatchback until 2001 when it became just a sedan and five-door hatchback. The third generation Elantra was launched in 2010 as a sedan, hatchback, and coupe.
The name “Elantra” comes from the Greek word for “sunrise”. It was also used on Hyundai’s sports car, the Genesis Coupe.
In October 2014 at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Hyundai unveiled their next-generation Elantra GT. A variant of this vehicle was sold in Australia as the i30 Fastback before being renamed to i30 N Fastback for 2020.
